Getting Started

If you´re just getting started, this is an incredible time for you! We recommend you seek out some helpful magazines to provide you with ideas. Starting off by copying the style and techniques of others will help you in developing your own style.

We also recommend not "buying out the store" when you´re getting started. Plan a general design for your first few pages and buy only necessary supplies. You will even develop preferences for adhesives, so try out different kinds before buying a large quantity of one type.

Do´s

  • Do start with current photos/memories. Sorting through past memories can be overwhelming when you are getting started.
  • Do try to plan out your pages before you start. You can organize your page in a variety of ways, including zip lock bags, dividing organizers, etc.
  • Do decide which style of album you prefer. There are many kinds and sizes of albums. Remember the bindings you use can impact the way your pages lay and preserve.
  • Do stand your albums up. Laying them down does not preserve the style and texture of your pages well over time.
  • Do use products developed specifically for scrapbooking or card making. These products include acid-free and lignin-free products for safekeeping.
  • Do enjoy yourself. This is most important. Whatever you do and however you decide to do it, have fun!
  • Do contact us if we can be of any assistance. We´ll be happy to help you get going.

Don´ts

  • Don´t be afraid to cut your pictures. That is a very hard thing for people to get past when they start scrapbooking.
  • Don´t be afraid to use single picture layouts. They make a statement without adding unnecessary clutter.
  • Don´t go overboard buying products until you get a feel for your favorites. You don´t want to spend money on things you won´t need or use.
  • Don´t throw your scraps away. You´d be surprised when they may come in handy.
  • Don´t be afraid or feel guilty to use the computer for journaling. Remember that preserving your memories for future generations is pointless if it can´t be read. If you have nice, legible handwriting, fantastic, if not, use the computer.
  • Don´t get discouraged. It might take time to get the creative juices flowing, even for long-time scrapbookers. When this happens, crack open some idea books and see if the sparks start flying again.
